Lucy Murphy is currently creative director and head of content at kids VoD service Azoomee. She will take up the newly created position at Sky in November, reporting to director of entertainment Stuart Murphy.

She has previously worked as a producer, script editor and development executive on more than 500 episodes of kids shows including Horrid Henry and The Gruffalo, and exec produced CBeebies’s show Bing Bunny for Acamar Films.

Lucy Murphy will also oversee the children’s section of Sky’s on-demand library, which has grown from 700 to 4,000 episodes and will be involved with the development of a kids’ app set to launch in early 2016.

Stuart Murphy said her appointment would help Sky improve its kids offering by “making sure we have the best on-demand offer and the best kids’ app in the market.”

Lucy Murphy added: “I’ve always been passionate about delivering content that connects deeply with kids on many levels. This is an amazing opportunity to do just that with a team that shares my belief that kids matter and that they deserve the very best content provided in the most direct and engaging way.”

Sky revealed its “multimillion-pound” investment in children’s programming earlier this year, and has introduced a dedicated channel tab on Sky’s EPG that provides access to series such as Adventure Time, SpongeBob SquarePants and Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom.
