Sky alum MacDonald gets Possessed role

ITV Studios-owned UK production label Possessed has appointed a former Sky1 director as its chairman, named a head of production and revealed a bumper gameshow order from its parent broadcaster.

Adam MacDonald becomes Possessed’s first chairman and will work with founder Glenn Hugill on the label’s strategic and creative plans.

MacDonald ran Sky1 and Sky Living before leaving in 2018, commissioning shows such as A Discovery of Witches and Karl Pilkington’s first scripted comedy Sick of It.

Prior to that he had worked at Channel 4, ITV, A&E and the BBC, as well as for UK prodcos Lion TV and IWC Media, commissioning and developing shows such as Come Dine With Me, Coach Trip, Deal or No Deal and Time Commanders.

He is joined at Possessed by Lesley Davies, the former director of international production at Warner Bros, who becomes head of production.

Davies’ credits include the adaptation and production of scripted and non-scripted formats including First Dates, The Bachelor, Little Big Shots, Who Do You Think You Are? and Gossip Girl.

Before that, Davies was acting deputy MD of Optomen TV and has also worked as head of production at Endemol UK.

The appointments come after UK broadcaster ITV handed a two-season order of gameshow format 5 Gold Rings. The show, which entered its second run last year, requires two teams to answer a variety of visual questions to win a cash prize.

It hass already been remade in France, Vietnam and the Netherlands and joins shows including quizzer Cram on Possessed’s slate. The latter is airing on Channel Ten in Australia, with ITV Studios Australia producing.
