Sister Pictures nurtures new writers

Sister Pictures will launch a writer-in-residence scheme designed to give scribes the opportunity to gain experience at the London prodco.

The scheme will be spearheaded by Alice Tyler, development executive at Sister, which was founded by former CEO of Kudos Jane Featherstone in January 2016.

It is designed to nurture emerging voices and will offer one new writer at an early stage in their career the opportunity to join the Sister development team on a biannual basis.

The writer will gain insights into the development process intended to equip them with the skills and experience required to help them advance to the next stage of their career.

Each writer will be attached to a specific project from Sister’s slate, which includes BBC/Sundance relationship drama The Split, ITV series Clean Break, Chernobyl for HBO/Sky and Giri Haji for BBC/Netflix.

Featherstone said: “I have been struck by the need to take responsibility in nurturing the much-needed next generation of voices.

“I hope that our new scheme will provide a series of new writers with an invaluable development opportunity in a safe, salaried and supportive environment, as well as helping to refill the pipeline of talent coming through the industry.”

Applications are now open and will close January 26. Writers should apply, via their agent, with a CV, a 500-word statement of why they would benefit from the scheme and a sample of their original dramatised work – a short film, spec TV or feature script, or a stageplay.
