Toronto-based Sinking Ship, behind shows such as Dino Dan and Odd Squad, launched in 2004 and has since produced more than 250 hours of content, filmed in over 35 countries.

Picture Box, which has offices in Toronto and Vancouver, was set up 15 years ago with a focus on kids’ and factual programming.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but the arrangement sees Picture Box partners Marilyn Kynaston and Kate Sanagan joining Sinking Ship to lead its expanding distribution and sales division.

The two companies have plenty of history, with Picture Box having distributed Sinking Ship’s inaugural series This is Daniel Cook and more recently girl-skewing Amazon live-action series Annedroids.

“Kate and Marilyn have always felt like a part of the Sinking Ship family,” said J.J. Johnson, partner in the latter. “They’re risk-eager, creative thinkers who represent shows with their hearts as much as their minds – we’re absolutely thrilled to have them both officially onboard.”

Picture Box’s Sanagan added: “Sinking Ship creates some of the most interesting and innovative children’s programming in the world and we’re looking forward to representing all of these series internationally.”
