Showtime returns to Black Monday

US cablenet Showtime has ordered a second 10-episode season of Black Monday, its Wall Street comedy-drama starring Don Cheadle.

Black Monday

Black Monday is a coproduction with Sony Pictures Television and was created by David Caspe and Jordan Cahan, who also serve as executive producers and showrunners.

Cheadle also serves as exec producer on the project. He previously worked with Showtime on House of Lies. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg also serve as exec producers, while Andrew Rannells and Regina Hall produce and star.

The comedy tells the fictional story of a motley crew of underdogs who caused the worst stock market crash in the history of Wall Street on October 19, 1987. The show will resume production later this year and return in 2020.

“Black Monday mines big comedy from the greed, the style, the music, and the excess of the 80s, but it’s also sneaky smart in its social commentary about that era – and indirectly, our current era as well,” said Gary Levine, president of entertainment at Showtime Networks.
