Searching for authenticity in the next generation of sports docs
Date:Thursday 30 November │

Venue:Hansom Hall,

Sports docs focusing on star names or professional clubs are proving such subscriber drivers for streamers that private equity firms are now investing in projects without a broadcaster attached knowing access will likely equal profit. But as the genre proliferates it’s becoming rare to find a football club without it’s own ride-along obs doc, and star names like Michael Jordan and David Beckham are seeking to tell their stories on their terms. What makes a good and bad sports doc? What terms and conditions are being attached to access? And are traditional documentary ideals of impartiality, journalistic rigour and critique being sacrificed in order to get cameras into somebody’s life, career or dressing room?
