At the age of 53, Anemone is given the tragic news that she has early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. This shocking diagnosis not only turns her life upside-down, but also threatens to expose the previous life that she left behind.

Nearly thirty years ago, Anemone (formerly known as Manon) ran away from a life marred by violence, leaving behind her three young children. Luckily, she was taken in by Lise, a generous-hearted woman who ran a women’s shelter in the small town of Belleville. Under her changed identity, Anemone created a new life for herself, and now works as a Funeral Director. She’s happy, surrounded by her children from her second union: Karla, the eldest wild child, who has moved back into the family home; Simon, who has started a family early and has inherited his father’s renovation business; and Olivia, the youngest, who is adopted and is following in Anemone’s professional footsteps.

When Anemone receives the diagnosis of a possibly hereditary illness, her former life (which her second family knows nothing about) comes back to haunt her. Will she find the courage to seek out her earlier children – Caroline, Sebastien and Jean-Olivier – before forgetting them completely? Most importantly, how will they react when they learn that Manon is still alive? Anemone will have much to answer for…

While struggling with her diagnosis and the dilemmas it presents, Anemone meets the new manager of the funeral home where she works. His name is Vincent. He’s a mysterious man, always watching her. She’ll develop a troubling relationship with him. What does Vincent want? Could he, too, be concealing… another story?
