On Friday, 22 July 2011, a 2,000-pound homemade fertilizer bomb planted in a car exploded in Oslo’s executive government quarter, killing eight and wounding dozens more. As emergency services raced to the scene, a 32-year-old Anders Breivik was making his way to small island hosting youth members of the Norwegian Labour Party. Here, he opened fire and killed 69 young adults. This absorbing new drama series – from award-winning filmmakers Sara Johnsen and Pål Sletaune – is about the people who took immediate action and dealt with the consequences of this terrible day; treating the injured, burying the dead, comforting the grieving and punishing the guilty. Featuring fictional characters, but based on meticulous research, it’s a gripping and heartfelt story about human sacrifices and admirable commitment – and about how it is possible to remain humane when faced with the ultimate in inhumanity.
