Ultimate Rescue is a documentary series in which every second counts. It’s an original, one-of-a-kind look at a police force’s search and rescue helicopter team. The rescue squad agreed to give our cameras exclusive access, allowing us to watch them as they go about their day-to-day work and during rescue missions. The team helps over 1,600 people every year, or about five people per day.

The territory is vast and wild and it’s easy to get lost or for situations to become life-or-death. The search and rescue team is not well known to the public. Their job is to find people who are lost in the forest, in the city, or are in distress, and to carry out rescues—sometimes in extreme conditions. Every search is considered an emergency, and interventions must happen quickly because a victims’ survival may be at stake. Interesting fact: only 1 in 600 police officers meet the physical and psychological requirements to do this high-risk job. The current team has four members, but it is planning to expand.

Our film crew had the privilege of monitoring, over several months, the first recruiting competition for the squad, which was open to 8,000 police officers. Ultimate Rescue is not for the faint of heart. The tension of the rescue workers and the fear of the people being rescued are always obvious on-screen.
