Architect Keita Shirakawa was married to the beautiful and ambitious Yukiko. They had great jobs, they had a wonderful daughter, and life seemed perfect until the day Yuikiko suddenly vanished. She leaves Keita with divorce papers and their daughter, mysteriously disappearing from their lives. When we meet Keita he is working as a building inspector, having given up his dream job to devote himself to his teenage daughter, Hitomi. They share a close bond and Keita is a perfect father, much to the envy of Hitomi’s friends, who wish they had dad’s like him.
Our story starts with Hitomi’s apparent kidnapping and a dramatic ultimatum, “I have your daughter, if you want her alive, find your ex-wife”. From here on the secrets that made up Keita’s life are exposed one by one. The reason for Yukiko’s disappearance, hidden luxury lifestyles, and secrets kept even by his beloved daughter. We are pulled into a suspenseful story of intrigue and mystery as the consequences of each revelation affect Keita and those around him - people who also have secrets of their own. People like Nanako - one of Keita’s closest childhood friends. Her career as a nursery school teacher and carer depends on her squeaky-clean reputation, but she might not be the person everyone thinks she is. Ryuji, Yukiko’s colleague, has been hiding something of his own as he involves himself in her relationship with Keita...
