This year’s Cartoon Forum will be unlike any of the 30 previous editions of the annual European coproduction and pitching extravaganza. You don’t need me to tell you why.

Up until this week, Cartoon Forum organiser Cartoon had been steadfast in its efforts to put on a physical version, rather than shifting to a completely online-only format, and announced a hybrid event last week with various safety precautions in place.

However, with Covid-19 cases in France rising at an alarming rate over the past month and a wave of cancellations forcing Cartoon’s hand, the decision has now been made to forgo the physical edition in Toulouse between September 14 and 17.

Instead, the annual European pitching event for animated series will be online-only, with producers pre-recording their pitches remotely and buyers watching them online.
