Hot Properties September 2022
C21 Digital Screenings hosts a monthly ‘Hot Properties’ screenings event on the platform to help connect programme suppliers and content buyers. Check out the latest shows from the world’s leading suppliers.
As we move into the fall season once again, international distributors are busy beefing up their slates with new programming for the buyer community, all available to screen in this month’s Hot Properties via C21’s Digital Screenings.
There’s plenty of new drama on offer in this month’s Hot Properties playlist, starting with the ever-popular crime genre. Witness Number 3 (All3Media International) is described as a “claustrophobic thriller” about a woman who witnesses a man seconds before his murder and comes from noted prodco Story Films.
D.I. Ray (Hat Trick International) is a “fresh, relevant and thought-provoking” cop show written by Line of Duty actress and screenwriter Maya Sondhi and produced by Jed Mercurio’s HTM Television. The Light in the Hall (About Premium Content) follows a convicted murderer released on parole whose case is investigated by a journalist.
Turkish series Another Chance (Inter Medya) follows a geography teacher struggling to leave his dirty past behind, and Obsessed to Death (MarVista Entertainment) tells the story of a woman who becomes fixated on her cycling instructor and will stop at nothing to become her.
Also in the mix for this month’s Hot Properties are Mobile 101 (Rabbit Films), about Finnish company Nokia’s rise to become the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer in the 1980s and 1990s. Meanwhile, Punishment (Wild Bunch TV) is an anthological high-end series based on short stories by Ferdinand von Schirach.
From Japan comes How to Get a Divorce for the Whole Family! (Tokyo Broadcasting System Television), which “takes a hard look at today’s social values through the lens of divorce,” according to the producers, while The Secrets She Keeps S2 (DCD Rights) takes place two years after the dramatic conclusion of the first series.
For buyers looking for lighter scripted fare, check out Greek series The Friend (Antenna Studios), which follows an irresistible 35-year-old bachelor, born with the exceptional talent to charm both men and women. Archer S13 (Banijay Rights) – described as “the perfect mix of the intrigue of James Bond and the family-feud antics of Arrested Development” – is also in the mix.
The factual titles on this month’s playlist are varied, ranging from straight documentaries to reality shows and factual entertainment formats. For those seeking docs, take a look at Colosseum (A+E Networks), an action-packed miniseries that reveals the Roman Empire through eight historical figures who lived and died in this famous amphitheatre.
The Olympic Widow (Dutch Core) claims to reveal the truth about the 1972 Olympics in Munich, when a group of Palestinian terrorists massacred members of the Israeli team. Moochie – Who Killed Jill Halliburton Su? (Terranoa), meanshile, tells the story of a brutal murder in a wealthy neighbourhood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Giants (Off the Fence), meanwhile, follows wildlife and LGBTQIA+ activist Dan O’Neil as he explores the structure and internal anatomy of the biggest animals alive today, and Close Encounters Down Under (Cineflix Rights) investigates some of the most bizarre ‘alien contacts’ of all time, from the Australian Outback to the alps of New Zealand.
Anyone’s Game (Blue Ant International) heads to Orangeville Prep, one of the top high school basketball schools in North America, as it readies itself for another season, while Falklands: Island of Secrets (Abacus Media Rights) is an investigation into a place that is globally famous and yet whose daily reality is unknown to outsiders.
The three-parter A Day in… (ZDF Studios) takes the viewer to three exciting settings in history: to a castle in the High Middle Ages, to New York at the time of industrialisation and to the Germany city of Dresden in the post-war period.
On the reality front, we have two titles from Asia. Before After (ABC Japan) is “a dramatic renovation show that changes families’ lives,” according to the producers, and EXchange (CJ ENM), sees eight men and women gather in a house to reunite with their past lovers and start meeting new people.
Marlin Quest (The Television Syndication Company), meanwhile, follows Ken Corday, executive producer of the Emmy-winning daytime drama Days of Our Lives and his sidekicks as they travel the globe together.
Moving further into the entertainment space, So What? (Sony Pictures Television Formats) is a comedy gameshow in which celebrities compete to prove they know the most about the nation’s habits, likes and dislikes. For buyers looking for magazine programming, Grip (Autentic Distribution) is described as “pure motoring entertainment and driving fun without limits.”
For younger viewers, we have a pair of animated titles in this month’s playlist. Mini Town (The Media Pioneers) centres on a group of bears living in the forest, while award-winning Brazilian animated comedy Jorel’s Brother (Cake) is lining up its fourth season.
Rounding out the playlist are two live-action programmes for kids. The Peppercorns (Studio Hamburg Enterprises) is the longest running live-action children’s series on German TV and follows five young detectives who investigate crime in their neighbourhood. First Day S2 (Australian Children’s Television Foundation) continues the story of a transgender kid at school.
That’s all for September, stay tuned for more Hot Properties in October!
