Hot Properties April 2020
C21 Digital Screenings hosts a monthly ‘Hot Properties’ screenings event on the platform to help connect programme suppliers and content buyers. Check out the latest shows from the world’s leading suppliers.
C21’s Hot Properties playlist for April 2020 reflects the times we all find ourselves in, as broadcasters hit by the production freeze and lack of sports events turn to distributors for suitable readymade programmes to broadcast.
This Hot Properties Playlist is packed full of shows that were due to make their debut at MipTV, before it was cancelled.
From Arte France comes a very topical documentary titled Epidemics: The Invisible Threat (1×52’/1×83’), exploring the rise of global pandemics.
For natural history and wildlife content, check out Canadian docs Trimates (2×52’/44’), Forces of Nature (4×52’) and Nature’s Clean Up Crew (1×52’), as well as Autentic Distribution’s Gronland – In the Glare of Ice (1×52’). Blue Ant International also has Malawi Wildlife Rescue (6×60’) for buyers to screen.
Still on the factual front, history is covered with Berlin 1945 (3×50’/1×180’/2×90’) from Autentic and Children of Chaos: What Became Of WW2 Orphans (1×90’/2×52′) from Terranoa, while Prison (6×60’) from Blue Ant looks at prison life in the UK. Buyers of biography content can take a look at Stallone, Frank That Is (1×72’) and Becoming Rocky (1×31’) from Branded Studios.
Other factual titles include archeology-themed The Bone Detectives (8×60’), The Real Prince Philip: A Royal Officer (1×60’) and two-parter A World Without NASA (2×60’) from DCD Rights, while lifestyle titles include Blue Ant series Coolest Places To Stay (12×30’). Unknown Carpathians – Hidden Treasures of Romania (2×52’/45’) from Autentic, Great Inventions (35×50’) from ZDF Enterprises and The Segregation Experiment (2×60’) from Banijay Rights are also on the list, as are A Haunting (1×49’) and FantomWorks (1×50’) from New Dominion Pictures.
With escapism high on the agenda for self-isolators, drama is also in the mix. Turkish series Tempt Me Love and The Ottoman are from ATV, while thrillers Thin Ice (8×45’) and GR5: Into The Wilderness (8×45’) come from Banijay Rights. German drama Top Dog (8×45’) from ZDF Enterprises is also worth a look, as are TV movies Friend Request (1×90’), Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss (1×90’) and Next Level (1×90’) from Marvista Entertainment.
Comedy programming is much sought after in these challenging times, so buyers searching for laffs can take a look at Flack (12×60’) from Hat Trick International and Awkwafina is Nora from Queens (10×30’) and R (10×60’), both from ViacomCBS.
For buyers looking for formats to adapt locally, this month’s Hot Properties include quizshow City vs Country (12×60’), travel show Globetrotters (8×60’) and Over the Atlantic (8×60’) from Rabbit Films, while Sony Pictures Television has Dragons’ Den, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Call That Hard Work on the list. The Story Lab, meanwhile, is showcasing talent show National Folk Star and dating format Undercover Twins.
With so many children now off school and staying at home, plenty of broadcasters are needing more kids’ content. On the Hot Properties playlist this month are a trio of toons from Cake: Mush-Mush & the Mushables (48×11’/2×22’), Kiri & Lou (52×5’) and Mighty Mike (78×7’), while Mediatoon has Sardine in Outer Space (52×12’), Tom & Lili (52×7’) and short series Garfield Originals (24×3’) on the Playlist.
Italian toon studio Mondo TV Group, meanwhile, has included MeteoHeroes and ViacomCBS has It’s Pony (20×30’). For older kids, ZDF Enterprises has included vampire drama Heirs of the Night (26×26′).
