In these challenging times, many of us are dreaming about a simpler life. The good old days when a home-cooked meal - with ingredients you grew yourself – could be shared with family and friends. A time when the kitchen was the heart of every home. And who doesn’t dream of a life away from the big city? To a house in the country where the air is fresh and there’s room to move. There’s never been a time like now! Australian chef-turned-farmer Paul West goes back-to-basics as he builds his new life in a quaint country farmhouse.

He’ll re-discover some of the skills our grandparents knew so well, and the recipes that have sustained us for generations. He’ll bake delicious sourdough loaves from scratch and we’ll see how easy cheese-making can be. There’ll be hearty soups and slow-cooked casseroles. Tips on preserving, pickling and making jam. And to top it all off, mouth-watering cakes and desserts like your grandma used to bake. But it’s more than just the kitchen.

With the spectacular Australian landscape as his backdrop, Paul will help with tips on creating your own vegetable and herb gardens, advice on composting and worm farms - even if you don’t have your own backyard! You don’t need to be a farmer and you certainly don’t need to go off-grid. This is a series for everyone – from apartment-dwellers to those who dream of life in the wide-open spaces. Far more than a cooking show, it’s all about farm-fresh goodness and a richness of life – key ingredients that make My Country Kitchen a great place to be!
