Chronicle of East Asia history background and the political interactions. In 1894, the Japanese launched a war against China and Korea. The war was instigated by Japan’s growing interest in Korea, a country then heavily influenced by China. Japan easily defeated China in a war that would decide who would control the Korean peninsula. The decisive moment was the surprising defeat of the Chinese navy, and China was forced to sign a series of unequal treaties with Japan. The significance of this war has been recognized the evolution of the international relations in East Asia till today as well as the unfolding of interacting histories in China, Japan and Korea.
