Thorogood had been close to quitting the TV writing game until meeting Red Planet Productions’ founder Tony Jordan, who took a liking to his 'copper in St Lucia' idea, despite the likely costs of producing in the Caribbean for five months of the year.
The show was eventually greenlit as a coproduction with the BBC, its commercial arm BBC Worldwide and France Télévisions. Thorogood discusses the challenges of pleasing different broadcasters and delivering engaging plots despite changes to the cast.
