TALKING SHOP: Starz Entertainment carved out a long-term coproduction deal with BBC Worldwide this year following the success of sci-fi drama Torchwood. Executive VP of programming Stephan Shelanski tells Jonathan Webdale similar tie-ups with others could be on the cards for 2012 and doesn't rule out reopening talks with Netflix over the pair's soon-to-lapse distribution pact.
C21's Talking Shop is a daily strand on C21Media.net that goes behind the news to talk to leading players in the international content business.
Says Shelanski: "We're investing in more content – higher-budget content. I think we're getting more sophisticated with the shows that we're putting on the air. Our plan for 2012 looks very strong."
Shelanski also discusses Starz's latest home-grown original, Boss, the company's hopes of having a new show on the network every Friday over the course of the coming year and the decision to continue with Spartacus following the tragic loss of star Andy Whitfield.
