Winkler, who received the Award of Excellence at this year's Banff World Media Festival, says today's TV business has changed little from the 1970s and 1980s when Happy Days enjoyed such success on ABC.
"The only difference is that people don't take a lot of risks and they don't leave a show to grow," he says. "There is no time. You make a show, you get on the air, you're a hit, you're not – in two episodes. If that were true Happy Days would not be on the air now."
