Cracking the safe

TALKING SHOP: Rasmus Ladefoged, entertainment editor at Danish pubcaster DR, confronts the perceived lack of originality in formats and whether industry consolidation could be to blame for an abundance of "safe" shows.

“The format industry right now needs to rise again after a slight decline in really original breakthrough formats,” says Ladefoged. “What we’ve been seeing over the past couple of years is new variations on existing ideas, and what we need is something fundamentally different.”
