SBS6 finds The Way Out

Escape room series The Way Out

Dutch commercial network SBS6 is set to broadcast a Dutch adaptation of Belgian format The Way Out.

A deal has been struck between Belgium-based format distributor Be-Entertainment, which owns the rights to the show, and John De Mol’s Talpa Network in the Netherlands, which owns SBS6.

The series sees two different celebrity duos locked in two identical rooms full of riddles and experiments. Each challenge that the pair solves provides them with a clue and brings them a step closer to finding their way out of the room. Behind the scenes, the two teams are led, and sometimes misled, by the presenters.

The original series is produced by Belgian prodco Roses are Blue for local broadcaster VTM with the first season reaching 37.9% of the market share among the 18-44 demo. A second season of The Way Out was commissioned after only four episodes had aired.

Gepke Nederlof, MD of Be-Entertainment, said: “The team at Roses are Blue were able to develop the first format that actually keeps viewers engaged and entertained while watching celebs trying to find their way out of an escape room. A code that no other creative team was able to crack until this moment. We’re very excited to share this success with Talpa in the Netherlands”.
