SBS to tell Stories from Norway

Comedy duo Bard and Vegard Ylvisaker flank SBS’s Bridget Ryan and Peter Andrew

Australian public broadcaster SBS has acquired the rights to a Norwegian format that tells factual stories about the country in the form of ‘investigative musicals.’

SBS has acquired the finished tape and format rights to Stories from Norway in a deal with Scandinavian distributor Nordic World and its parent company Digital Content International (DCI), the US licensing and distribution firm launched by industry veteran Michael Jay Solomon.

The original show is fronted by the Ylvis brothers, Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker, a well-known Norwegian comedy duo. It premiered on TV Norge in February.

Stories from Norway focuses on events such as Justin Bieber’s visit to the country, the theft of Edvard Munch’s famous The Scream painting from the National Gallery and the so-called Andøya Missile Crisis, bringing them to life in the form of musicals.

The format launched at MipTV in April and this is the first international deal secured by Nordic World and DCI.
