SBS takes Spitting Image reboot to Belgium

The rebooted Spitting Image features a new cast of puppets

The rebooted version of classic UK satirical puppet show Spitting Image has been picked up by Belgian broadcaster SBS.

Spitting Image is being revived in the UK by comedy specialist prodco Avalon as an original commission for streaming service BritBox.

Co-creator of the original show Roger Law is returning to head the creative team, while Jeff Westbrook (The Simpsons, Futurama) is showrunner, leading an international writing team.

Development of the puppets is already underway with Donald Trump, Prince Andrew, Vladimir Putin, Harry and Meghan, RuPaul, Boris Johnson, Beyoncé, Elon Musk, Adele, James Corden and UK government advisor Dominic Cummings all being tageted by the show.

Spitting Image ran for a total of 18 season between 1984 and 1996 on UK commercial broadcaster ITV, ridiculing figures including Margaret Thatcher, footballer Paul Gascoigne and Ronald Reagan.

The rebooted version will appear on BritBox in the autumn and SBS has secured a deal with Avalon for the first two seasons.
