SBS orders dramedy for web

Homecoming Queens was created by Chloë Reeson and Michelle Law

Australian online platform SBS On Demand has ordered a semi-autobiographical comedy-drama about two 20-something best friends who reinvent themselves after suffering chronic illnesses.

Homecoming Queens (7×8′) comes from an all-female team, including writers and creators Chloë Reeson and Michelle Law, with the latter also playing one of the leads in the show.

Its other lead will be played by Liv Hewson, who recently appeared in Top of the Lake: China Girl and Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet.

The series is produced by Katia Nizic for Generator Pictures and directed by Corrie Chen. Screen Australia, in association with Screen Queensland and Film Victoria, has invested in the online series.

Homecoming Queens follows the previous collaboration between Chen and Law on the short film Bloomers.

The series will begin filming in Brisbane in November and will be available next year. It joins the growing list of online series on which Screen Australia and SBS have partnered, including Top Knot Detective, Wizards of Aus and Starting From Now.
