Sat.1 Gold visits Grantchester

Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 will air UK period crime drama Grantchester after striking a deal with distributor Endemol Shine International.

Grantchester

The German broadcaster will run seasons one to four of Grantchester and its Christmas special on its Sat.1 Gold network in a dedicated British programming slot.

Set in a small English town near Cambridge in the 1950s, Grantchester’s first four seasons followed Vicar Sidney Chambers (James Norton) as he helped Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green) solve crimes in the town.

ITV greenlit a fifth season in July with Tom Brittney replacing Norton.

Endemol Shine UK-owned prodco Kudos UK coproduces Grantchester alongside PBS’s Masterpiece for ITV. The series has been sold to 176 countries and is adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie.

“Our audience loves nostalgic and entertaining crime stories with lovingly narrated characters,” said Michaela Kiermaier, VP of channel management for Sat.1 Gold. “Grantchester will be another highlight series that perfectly matches our British Friday line-up.”
