Samat returns to Disney India

The Walt Disney Company in India has reinstated one of its former MDs to replace the outgoing Siddharth Roy Kapoor.

Roy Kapoor is leaving the Mouse House after just under two years as India MD, having replaced Ronnie Screwvala in the role on January 1 2014. He will leave Disney at the end of the year to pursue new business opportunities.

Mahesh Samat will return to Disney India in the role he previously held between 2008 and 2012, before he left to set up Indian broadcaster Epic Television Networks.

Samat will rejoin Disney India on November 28 and will report to Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney International.

The exec will be responsible for Disney’s strategy, business efforts and global franchises in India and will be tasked with expanding and creating new businesses opportunities.
