Salto gets Happily Married

Happily Married

Salto, the forthcoming joint-venture SVoD service from French broadcasters France Télévisions, TF1 and M6, has acquired dark comedy drama Happily Married.

The 10-part series revolves around two couples in crisis. After dropping their children off at summer camp in July 1974, both couples are confronted by the lamentable state of their married lives. But in a society where divorce is still frowned upon, their search for marital bliss leads them to take a series of drastic decisions, and ultimately they become the most infamous quartet of criminals in Quebec history.

Happily Married is produced by Montreal-based prodco Productions Casablanca. It is the latest series from writer François Létourneau and director Jean-François Rivard, who previously worked together on Les Invincibles and Série Noire. The show originally aired on Radio-Canada Télé and Tou.Tv Extra.

UK-based distributor Cineflix Rights secured the deal with Salto, which has delayed its planned June launch until the autumn amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Thomas Crosson, Salto’s head of content, said: “This show represents exactly what Salto wants to embody, an offering with bold and original content which has a perfect mix of freedom of tone and dark humour.”
