S4C International in £5m animation drive

Welsh distributor S4C International has launched a new kids' animation drive with a co-production budget of £5m ($7.3m), overseen by a new children's strategy group.

Chaired by former head of children's TV at the BBC Anna Home, the strategy group's budget will rise to £12m ($17.4m) once other co-production partners are on board.

The search for toons with multimedia dimensions has kicked off, with Welsh and UK production outfits with Welsh bases invited to pitch.

Also in the strategy group are S4CI's head of co-productions Huw Walters, head of international sales Rhianydd Darwin, head of project development Eina McHugh, programme sales manager Anna-Lisa Jeanner, S4C's children's commissioning editor Meirion Davies and director of animation Chris Grace.

S4CI is also planning a second 26×15' series of Animated Tales of the World.
