Jon Rutherford, whose exit from Tricon was revealed this week, becomes president of distribution at the firm and has a remit to grow operations in the US and internationally.

Temple Street had been planning to expand its production, distribution and acquisition activity after Canadian insurance and investment firm Fairfax Financial Holdings took a majority stake in the firm last month.

Temple Street also recently agreed to make its first original for Netflix, Lost & Found Music Studios, a half-hour series about a group of talented musicians at a prestigious recording studio.

The series was commissioned by Family Channel in Canada and will debut in early 2016, with Netflix premiering it shortly after in all territories outside Canada and the UK.

Rutherford, who will report to Temple Street MD John Young, was most recently exec VP of distribution and business development for Tricon and before that was head of distribution at Portfolio Entertainment.

Temple Street is behind Killjoys for Syfy and Space, CBC’s X Company and The Next Step for Family Channel and Hulu, amongst other shows.
