Russian studio brings Hoffman to Mip

MIPJUNIOR: One of Russia’s oldest animation studios is in Cannes as part of a delegation of prodcos from the country, launching three children’s shows for buyers.

Soyuzmultfilm, which was founded in 1936 and has produced more than 1,500 TV shows and feature films, is bringing Hoffmaniada to market, which is based on novels by German author E Hoffmann and combines puppetry with animated images.

Also on the firm’s slate is Suvorov, which tells the story of how Russian commander Alexander Suvorov rose to become a national hero. There is also a new season of animated show Merry-Go-Round, which first aired in Russia in 1969.

Soyuzmultfilm is attending MipJunior in Cannes as part of the Russian Animation Group, which is organised by the Cinema Fund and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Also part of the delegation is Wizart Animation, which is behind animated series Yoko, aimed at kids aged 4-6, while Studio Moskva is launching multimedia project Alisa Knows What To Do!.

The content is based on the Alisa’s Journey novels by Kir Bulychiov, and includes a full-length animated film, a TV series and applications for smart phones. The TV show currently airs on CTC in Russia, as well as on kids channel Karusel.

Elsewhere, Animation Studio Melnitsa is presenting Russia 1 duo Luntik and friends, and The Pooches, as well as Three Bogatyrs, which is based on Russian folk tales.
