RTL2 raises Banijay’s Shipwrecked

MIPTV: Banijay Rights’ reality adventure format Shipwrecked is to be adapted in Germany following its recent resurrection on Channel 4’s youth-skewing network E4 in the UK.

Banijay Productions Germany will make a local version for RTL2, based on the format originally produced by UK-based production funding agency Motion Content Group (MCG) and RDF Television’s entertainment label Fizz.

The deal marks Shipwrecked’s first international pickup since it was rebooted on E4 earlier this year. The show is described as the ultimate popularity contest in paradise, with two tribes – the Sharks and the Tigers – battling against each other to attract new recruits to their remote islands.

Shipwrecked first aired on Channel 4 in 2000. Its last outing in the UK before this year’s edition was on E4 in 2011.
