RTL takes full control in Croatia

European broadcaster RTL Group has bought up the 26% in its Croatian operation, which houses RTL Televisija and RTL2, that it didn’t already own.

RTL has reached undisclosed agreements with local partners Atlantic and Agrokor to acquire their respective 13% shares in RTL Hrvatska (RTL Croatia). Both firms retain a seat on the supervisory board.

RTL launched in Croatia in 2003 and made several moves to increase its initial 33% stake in the firm, holding 74% by 2007. RTL Televisija claimed to lead the commercial market with a 24.5% share of 18- to 49-year-olds in 2010. RTL2 went on air in January.

Earlier today, C21 revealed RTL is entering into talks with Talpa Media about re-acquiring the 26.3% of RTL Nederland owned by the Dutch producer.

This followed the Dutch antitrust authority’s ruling that Talpa must shed the stake if it is to alleviate competition concerns and move ahead with its minority acquisition in RTL rival SBS Nederland.
