RTL names first VoD chief

German broadcaster Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has appointed a head of VoD content at its RTL Interactive unit.

Moritz Pohl

Moritz Pohl, who currently serves as head of programme management at regional broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), will take up the newly created post in October, overseeing the expansion of RTL Interactive’s TV Now VoD platform.

One of Pohl’s key responsibilities will be exclusive content for TV Now, including originals and in-house productions as well as licensed acquisitions of exclusive and non-exclusive programming.

RTL Interactive MD Jan Wachtel said Pohl’s extensive programming expertise made him “the right person to develop our exclusive content,” adding that RTL Interactive was developing TV Now “into an independent, full-featured video-on-demand service for mainstream content.”

TV Now currently offers a selection of hit shows from Mediengruppe RTL channels such as RTL, Vox, RTL II, Super RTL and Nitro, including Shopping Queen, Goodbye Deutschland and Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten (Good Times, Bad Times), as well as US series such as Chicago PD and Gone.

At RBB, Pohl has been responsible for programme planning, on-air marketing and programme-related services, including the RBB media library. He previously held various positions at Mediengruppe RTL, where, until 2015, he served as head of strategic programming, overseeing planning issues at RTL and Nitro as well as international programming research.
