RTL International will premiere on January 18, offering general interest entertainment programming in HD and will target German-speaking ex-pats and holidaymakers abroad.

The service will be available initially in Canada (Bell Media), Australia (Flip TV), Southern Africa (Deukom) Israel (Hot, Yes) and Georgia (Caucasus), and will roll out in the US (Charter Communications) in February.

RTL, which unveiled plans for the service last year, will expand the channel’s distribution in the second quarter 2016 and will also make it available via an app and online. Live news, magazine shows, soaps and TV series will form part of its initial offering.

“There is a lot of interest in RTL International being expressed by platforms all over the world because the station offers a unique opportunity to reach German ex-pats with its premium German content,” said Stefan Sporn, general manager of international distribution at RTL International.

“We look forward to this launch but also to the enormous potential opening up to us over the next few months to target even more platform partners, so that we can reach even more people with our unique TV brands.”

RTL International follows the lead of German media group ProSiebenSat.1’s ProSieben1Welt, which also caters for German speakers worldwide.
