European media giant RTL Group is combining its Nordic digital video business United Screens with its Berlin-based digital-focused outfit Divimove.

RTL said the move, which will also integrate its RTL-branded multichannel network in the Netherlands, aims to create Europe’s leading digital studio and home for digital creators.

The expanded Divimove will represent more than 1,000 digital talents in nine European territories, generating 3.2 billion online videos a month between them.

Tobias Schiwek will continue to serve as Divimove CEO and will also lead the integration of the three entities. In his expanded capacity, Schiwek now reports to RTL Group’s executive committee. Natalie Tideström Heidmark will continue to serve as CEO of United Screens, reporting to Schiwek.

RTL has also approved a growth plan to significantly expand Divimove’s capabilities in the areas of talent management, shortform video content production, advertising sales and technology/data.

Driven by the planned investments, the combined company’s revenue is expected to double to more than €100m (US$112m) by 2022.

The move follows the combination of Divimove and the digital storytelling arm of prodco UFA at the end of last year.

RTL Group CEO Thomas Rabe said: “RTL Group’s digital video businesses have built significant reach among young audiences, which are highly sought after by advertisers.

“We have now defined a new structure and strategy to convert the rapid growth in shortform video consumption into a profitable business: we are bundling our strengths into one company with a hands-on management team, we are investing in talent, creativity and technology – and we are bringing the cooperation within our group to the next level.”
