RTL buys into Shine gameshow

MIPTV: Germany’s top commercial channel RTL has greenlit a full series of Shine Germany’s new gameshow Cash Crash.

Following a successful one-off special broadcast on RTL in March, which attracted 3.4 million viewers and won its timeslot in the key 14-49 demo, the German channel will now air a longer 4×120′ series this summer.

The new studio-based gameshow, originally developed by Shine-owned Meter Television in Sweden, sees teams compete to hang on to ‘life-changing’ amounts of cash through a series of tough, physical time challenges. The show is being distributed internationally as Don’t Lose the Money

“Broadcasters worldwide are looking for structured and fun physical gameshows and Don’t Lose The Money is exactly that. The big studio prizes and wide range of games give it serious international potential,” said Shine Group’s CEO Alex Mahon.

This latest deal follows the news that rival German nets Sat.1 and ProSieben are to air a version of Shine’s Sky1 show Got To Dance this year.

Don’t Lose The Money joins a roster of new and returning unscripted Shine formats, including The Face and Anything Goes, MasterChef, Biggest Loser, One Born Every Minute and Beauty and The Geek.
