RTÉ, AME take two for Finding Joy

Comedy series Finding Joy

Irish pubcaster RTÉ and AMC-owned Acorn Media Enterprises (AME) in the US have re-teamed for the second season of comedy Finding Joy.

The agreement comes shortly after the two commissioned an Irish comedy-drama The South Westerlies with Dublin-based Deadpan Pictures last month, while the two also worked together on the first season of Finding Joy.

Created and written by its star, Amy Huberman (Striking Out), Finding Joy is produced by Treasure Entertainment and begins filming its second season this week in Dublin.

The six-part comedy follows the main character as she is reborn as an independent entrepreneur, struggling to establish her online brand of finding happiness and fulfilment in everyday life.

AME has secured all rights in North America, Australia, New Zealand and the UK and secondary rights in Ireland. Acorn Media International will distribute the series in the English-speaking territories.

The second season will premiere as an Acorn TV Original on North American streamer Acorn TV, which focuses on television from Britain and beyond, in summer 2020 followed by its Irish premiere on RTÉ. The first season was the highest-rating comedy debut of 2018 for RTÉ.

It is produced by Rob Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan of Treasure Entertainment and directed by John Butler (Papi Chulo, Handsome Devil, The Stag) with director of photography Cathal Watters (Peaky Blinders).

As well as The South Westerlies and season one of Finding Joy, RTÉ and Acorn TV have co-commissioned Dead Still and previously coproduced Striking Out and Acceptable Risk together.

It joins other Acorn TV Originals such as: seasons two and three of Agatha Raisin, starring Ashley Jensen; British drama London Kills; British mystery Queens of Mystery; and New Zealand thriller The Sounds.
