RTBF takes Banijay’s Legacy to Belgium

The Legacy has been picked up by Belgian broadcaster RTBF

Belgian broadcaster RTBF has become the latest international channel to commission a local version of Banijay Group’s entertainment format The Legacy.

The format has been picked up from Banijay Rights, the company’s distribution arm, and will be produced locally by Banijay-owned Zodiak Belgium.

An initial order of 86×45’ has been placed and the show will begin airing next week, titled Les Associés, and stripped daily in primetime on RTBF’s French-language free-to-air channel La Une.

The Legacy has already been adapted in eight territories and has been a daily hit for more than 15 years on Rai Uno in Italy and, since 2010, has helped boost the midday slot on TF1 in France.

The format sees contestants compete in a variety of games to take home a cash prize. At the start of the game, the prize fund is split into equal shares between the players and after each round the weakest contestant picks an opponent to duel with in an attempt to save themselves.

The RTBF deal comes as Banijay Rights unveils its formats slate for the forthcoming Mipcom market in Cannes next month.

New launches include entertainment format The Duo, created by Banijay-owned Mastiff Denmark for DR1. The show brings singers together for a duet audition in which they cannot see the person they’ve been chosen to sing with.

Cookery show Taste of the Nation, which aired on NPO1 in the Netherlands, is also on the Mipcom slate. The show brings home cooks together to present their own recipes to a panel of judges.
