Romania bags BBCWW’s Bake Off

Romania’s Pro TV is preparing a local version of The Great Bake Off format after agreeing a deal with BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) ahead of Mipcom.

The commercial arm of the UK pubcaster has sealed a raft of formats and finished tape sales in the run-up to the market in Cannes next month.

Pro TV will be the 21st international broadcaster to adapt the competitive baking show, which started off as Love Productions’ The Great British Bake Off on BBC2 in the UK. It will air in Saturday night primetime in Romania from this autumn.

BBCWW’s Street Doctor format has sold to Swedish public broadcaster SVT, which is prepping an 8×60’ run, while TV2 in Denmark has commissioned a second 20×30’ season of classic sporting quizshow A Question of Sport.

BBCWW will launch hypnosis format You’re Back in the Room in Cannes in October, with TV hypnotist Keith Barry in town for live performances.

It’s one of a dozen formats on the company’s Mipcom slate, which also includes One in 1,000 – a show that sees 1,000 contestants compete in knockout rounds to find the ultimate all-rounder.

The People’s Strictly takes six everyday people and gives them their own Strictly Come Dancing experience, while We’re Gonna Win the Cup tells the story of an important national football competition on the day of its final through the eyes of the fans.

On the scripted formats side, BBCWW is relaunching Ricky Gervais comedy The Office, having recently picked up more than 100 scripts from the US version.
