Robinson resurfaces with Heyward

Paul Robinson, the former Disney Channels Worldwide and KidsCo chief, has joined ex-DIC Entertainment boss Andy Heyward’s part-Indian joint-venture toon house A Squared Elxsi Entertainment (A2E2).

Robinson is joining before MipTV to become president of A Squared Elxsi International, A2E2’s new global arm, which will focus on expansion outside the US, where it has been based to this point.

Based out of a new office in London, Robinson will be responsible for content distribution in all formats, acquisitions, consumer products and further global expansion.

He is best known as Disney/ABC’s former senior VP for Disney Channels Worldwide globally, where he founded and expanded Toon Disney and Playhouse Disney channels internationally.

He went on to launch KidsCo as global CEO in 2007, and helped the brand launch in 100 territories and in 18 languages before his departure last year.

Robinson now joins a talent pool that includes A2E2 co-presidents Heyward and Amy Moynihan, chief operating officer Greg Payne and chief financial officer Harish Seth.

The news comes after Heyward’s A Squared Entertainment studio and Indian technology firm Tata Elxsi – part of Asian business conglomerate Tata Group – joined forces to launch A2E2 in December to create multimedia entertainment brands and acquire content. Tata Elxsi has a majority stake in A2E2. The pair signed a memorandum of understanding in January 2011.

“I can think of no other executive as talented and knowledgeable as Paul Robinson,” said Heyward. “We have ambitious plans to expand A2E2 internationally and no one is more qualified to lead this growth than Paul with his proven track record of success.”

“A2E2 is perfectly positioned to provide world class content to customers and licensees in today’s rapidly developing digital media industry. I will be leading our growth into international markets,” added Robinson.

He will be in Cannes next month for MipTV, where A2E2 is launching its Warren Buffet-fronted toon series Secret Millionaires Club, showcasing new episodes.

The show, which teaches business literacy, features US stars such as Jay-Z, Shaquille O’Neal and Serena Williams, got its first linear broadcast on US cablenet The Hub last October following a series of AOL webisodes. A2E2 also manages the Build-a-Bear Workshop brand.
