Warner Bros-owned Renegade Pictures has appointed a former Channel 4 commissioning editor to oversee its factual and factual drama output.

Julia Harrington takes up the newly created role of director of factual and factual drama at Renegade, which was founded a decade ago by Alex Cooke, Alan Hayling and Jon Rowlands.

Harrington, who left C4 in 2014 having worked on shows including Richard III: The King In The Car Park and factual drama series The Mill, said she would make “some ambitious new plays” at Renegade.

“We want to do more specialist factual programming and fact-based scripted drama and Julia’s exactly the right person to help us achieve that,” added Harry Lansdown, the firm’s director of programmes. “We look forward to making some great and significant television together.”

Harrington will report to editorial director Hayling and will work alongside CEO Alex Cooke, Lansdown, and creative director Alexis Price, who replaced Rowlands after he joined parent Warner Bros last year.

Renegade was behind shows including Don’t Tell The Bride, which is moving from the BBC to Sky1 this month, as well as docs such as The Town That Took On The Taxman on BBC2 and Drugs Live: The Cannabis Trials for Channel 4.
