Register heads Cartoon Network Studios

Warner Bros Animation (WBA) president Sam Register has been given responsibility for Cartoon Network Studios (CNS), while the latter’s chief has moved into an overall production deal and Cartoon Network is getting an interim programming boss.

Register, who began his animation career with Cartoon Network in 1994, will lead both animation studios as separate entities in his new role.

Ed Adams, executive VP and general manager of WBA, will see his role expand to include CNS, working alongside Register, to whom he will continue to report.

Cartoon Network chief content officer Rob Sorcher, who also served as head of CNS, will now create both animated and live-action properties with Warner Bros Television Group as part of his overall deal.

Former Nickelodeon and Universal Kids executive Amy Friedman has been brought in as a senior advisor to take over Sorcher’s Cartoon Network programming responsibilities on an interim basis.

The changes have been made by Tom Ascheim, who was named president of global kids, young adults and classics at Warner Bros earlier this year, as the ongoing restructure at parent company WarnerMedia continues.

Friedman will report to Ascheim and will provide creative, strategic and inclusive programming guidance for the Cartoon Network brand, according to US reports.

The Warner Bros global kids, young adults and classics division currently produces more than 30 series, including Teen Titans Go! and Looney Tunes Cartoons at WBA and Craig of the Creek and We Bare Bears at CNS.
