Mip China Hangzhou will run from May 23 to 25 next year – the first time a Mip market has been held in China.

The summit will be split into two parts, one of which will focus on fostering relationships between Chinese and international production companies, with 40 international TV outfits set to meet with 40 senior Chinese media executives, Reed said.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit production studios based in and around Hangzhou, home to companies such as Alibaba and Huace TV & Film.

The second part of the event will see 150 delegates attend a training conference to share information on TV trends, international distribution, online video and virtual reality.

“Mip China Hangzhou will provide a much-needed platform for international programme professionals to meet with their counterparts from companies throughout China,” said Dong Yue, Hangzhou mayor’s representative.

“Cross-border content development is more than ever a strategic choice for entertainment production companies looking to capture local and global audiences,” added Reed Midem chief executive Paul Zilk.

The event has been organised in partnership with China Media Management and Zhejiang Mega Media, organiser of the Zhejiang Provincial pavilion at the Mip markets in Cannes.

The move comes after Reed Midem branched out of Europe and into the Latin American market in 2014 with Mip Cancun, the next edition of which will take place from November 16 to 18.
