Reed Midem confirms Mipcom strategy

Mipcom 2019

Event organiser Reed Midem has provided details of the safety measures it will put in place when it holds Mipcom and MipJunior in Cannes in October.

With the French government allowing trade shows and exhibitions with more than 5,000 attendees to be held from September 1, subject to ongoing assessments related to the pandemic, Reed Midem continues to plan for a physical event in October, as C21 revealed exclusively at the start of June.

The organiser has now unveiled a series of measures designed to ensure the health and safety of attendees at the events, which run from October 10 to 15. These include:

  • Regulated traffic flow and capacity across the exhibition hall. Floor markings to allow for physical distancing, with on-site registrations reduced and the majority of badges sent to clients before the event.
  • The wearing of masks to be mandatory for all participants, service providers and the Reed Midem team, while a ‘medical service’ will be available during show days.
  • Hydro alcoholic gel to be made be available during the event along with hand disinfectant stations throughout the exhibition zone.
  • Daily disinfection of high-use areas to be reinforced.
  • The re-designing of meeting spaces and conference rooms to allow face-to-face meetings while respecting physical distancing measures. The capacity of these rooms will be also limited.
  • The reinforcing of safety checks on food hygiene.

Reed Midem added that it is planning to communicate “regularly” before and during the event to provide updates on its safety rules.

“Our objective is to open the doors of our exhibitions in a responsible manner while respecting the protection of the participants and our team,” the organisation said.

“The safety of our attendees and staff is our top priority. To ensure we can gather safely in Cannes, Reed Midem and our event partners will have in place rigorous guidelines and advanced safety measures throughout the Palais des Festivals and all of our event venues.”

This year’s edition will showcase the latest content, including finished series, and shows in production or in development as part of the Mipcom Global Upfronts.

Meanwhile, the physical event will be supported by a host of digital programmes for those unable to visit Cannes.

“Mipcom 2020 will push beyond physical boundaries with our first Online+ Digital Hybrid Edition designed to support buyers and participants who can’t travel at this time to connect from home and for participants in Cannes to connect with those at home. We will keep you posted as our Online+ programme develops.

The MipJunior digital library will also go online two weeks prior to the market, while its screening rooms will “operate with strict hygiene and physical distancing protocols in place.” After the market, the library will stay online for nine months.
