Ranganathan prodco signs with Sky

Sky Studios, the European satcaster’s recently formed production division, has agreed a first-look deal with UK comedian Romesh Ranganathan’s prodco, Ranga Bee.

The deal will see Sky Studios co-develop projects alongside the comedy and entertainment prodco. The two outlets already have a relationship following two successful seasons of Ranga Bee’s series The Reluctant Landlord, which is broadcast on Sky1.

Future projects will be co-developed and executive produced by Sky’s director of comedy, Jon Mountague, alongside Ranga Bee founders Ranganathan and Benjamin Green. NBCUniversal will handle distribution of the projects on behalf of Sky Studios.

Ranganathan and Green said in a statement: “We set up Ranga Bee to make great comedy shows with both new and established talent and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Sky Studios to help further that ambition. We look forward to making innovative and genuinely funny comedy and comedy dramas together. This is also a great opportunity for Romesh to pretend to support other talent.”

Sky Studios was established in 2019 and currently has 52 scripted shows in production. The European satcaster is also set to open a new TV and film studio, Sky Studios Elstree, in 2022.
