Rai moves into Scream Street

MIPCOM: Italian pubcaster Rai has picked up animated series Scream Street in a deal with Italian producer and distributor Atlantyca Entertainment.

The Coolabi-produced 52×11′ comedy-horror series centres on a young werewolf called Luke, young vampire Resus and 4,000-year-old mummy Cleo.

An Italian-language version will launch on October 30 on Rai’s children’s channel Rai Gulp.

The series, based on the children’s books of the same name by British author Tommy Donbavand, first debuted in October 2015 on CBBC in the UK.

Luca Milano, director of Rai kids’ department Rai Ragazzi, said Scream Street innovated the comedy-horror genre for kids “with imagination and fun.”

ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE) holds worldwide distribution rights to the series outside of the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and now Italy, after Atlantyca (Geronimo Stilton) acquired them from ZDFE.

The Coolabi Group has appointed Atlantyca as the licensing agent for the show for Italian-speaking territories.
