Rai extends stay in Ladies’ Paradise

Italian pubcaster Rai Uno has ordered two more seasons of soap Il Paradiso delle Signore (The Ladies’ Paradise), totalling 320 new episodes.

The period drama, inspired by Emile Zola’s novel The Ladies’ Paradise and set in a clothing department store in 1950s Milan, is produced by Banijay Group-owned Aurora TV.

Starring Alessandro Tersigni, Roberto Farnesi, Vanessa Gravina and Gloria Radulescu, the show focuses on the store’s employees against the backdrop of social change.

It launched on Rai Uno in 2015 and aired for two seasons (20×50′) in primetime, one night a week, before being extended into a daily soap for its third season, airing every weekday at 15.00.

Rai CEO Fabrizio Salini said: “Il Paradiso delle Signore has continued to go from strength to strength on Rai Uno and we are pleased to be welcoming it back to our schedules to see these characters and the story further evolve.”

The series is produced by Aurora TV’s Giannandrea Pecorelli and executive produced by Daniele Carnacina. It is directed by Francesco Pavolini, Riccardo Mosca, Marco Maccaferri and Isabella Leoni.

The fourth season is due to begin on October 14, with production starting this summer.
