Radio-Canada signs for Nat Geo fare

MIPCOM: French-Canadian pubcaster Radio-Canada has signed a volume output deal for National Geographic content.

The agreement with Fox International Channels and National Geographic Channels International, which amounts to over 100 hours of finished titles, also extends to developing and coproducing projects of mutual interest, starting with a new project on the Arctic.

The new shows from Nat Geo will kick off in January 2015 on the broadcaster’s ICI Explora channel, which is launching a primetime slot dedicated to National Geographic productions, starting with six documentaries about big cats.

Radio-Canada is also interested in Nat Geo’s docs and series currently in production to strengthen existing factual strands Découverte, La Semaine Verte, Zone Doc and Les Grands Reportages on its channel ICI RDI.

The deal will also allow Radio-Canada’s online education platform Curio.ca to use 200 hours of National Geographic documentaries following their airing on ICI Explora, as well as hours acquired specifically for the platform.

Curio.ca targets all levels of education from primary school through to higher (post-secondary) education to support teaching and is available to more than two million students.
