Quibi makes a move with new dance show

Ayo & Teo hail from Michigan

Soon-to-launch shortform video platform Quibi has greenlit a new dance competition series named The Sauce, led by the viral sibling dance duo Ayo & Teo.

The competition series will see the two brothers travel across the US in search of the country’s best dancers. The series is produced by US indie The Front, and Thalia Mavros, Krista Manis and Kadine Anckle are the executive producers.

Michigan dance and rap act Ayo & Teo (aka Ayleo and Mateo Bowles) broke on to the scene in 2017 with their viral dance challenge Rolex. They boast more than two billion total social media views, and more than 5.2 million Instagram followers.

Former Vice exec Mavros, senior executive and founder of female-first doc prodco The Front, said: “Supporting artists and sharing their stories in an elevated way is an integral part of The Front’s mission. Ayo and Teo are incredibly talented, and bring unparalleled expertise and energy to youth dance culture that makes them the perfect hosts for The Sauce.”

Quibi, which launches next year, is the brainchild of former Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman. The firm has so far raised US$1bn in funding from investors including Disney, 21st Century Fox, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, WarnerMedia, Liberty Global and China’s Alibaba Group.
