Queering the Script goes to Hollywood Suite

Canadian channels operator Hollywood Suite has picked up a feature doc from Canuck producer Shaftesbury about LGBTQ+ representation in TV and movies.

Queering the Script is directed by Gabrielle Zilkha (Stop Calling Me Honey Bunny) and explores the role of queer superfans, examining how viewers and audiences are shaping representation on TV and movies.

The documentary includes interviews within screen talent, showrunners and producers including Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Tanya Saracho (Vida).

“We’re proud to be partnering with Hollywood Suite on such an important film that marks a shift in the industry towards supporting women of colour, transgender and non-binary characters,” said Christina Jennings, executive producer on the show and chairman and CEO at Shaftesbury.

Scott Garvie and Jay Bennett join Jennings as exec producer, with Stephanie Ouaknine producing and Gabrielle Zilkha directing.

Hollywood Suite owns and operates four HDTV channels in North America featuring iconic movies from the 1970s to the 2000s. It also operates an on-demand service allowing access to hundreds of movies per month.
