Pulse hires for non-fiction, ups Cooper

Vice Media-backed UK and US prodco Pulse Films is expanding its factual film and TV offering with the promotion of Emma Cooper to global president of non-fiction.

Emma Cooper

The content studio has also appointed Ryan Harrington as executive producer of non-fiction feature documentaries, who will be tasked with managing the studio’s growing slate of films. He will report to Cooper.

The changes have been made to dedicate a single team to non-fiction across film and TV without limitations on formats or platforms.

Cooper was previously creative director for factual at Pulse. Under her direction, the studio’s non-fiction division will further concentrate on series and feature documentaries, as well as premium music docs and non-fiction formats.

Ryan Harrington

Prior to Pulse, Harrington helped launch A+E IndieFilms, the theatrical doc arm of A+E Networks. He was previously VP of artist programmes for Tribeca Film Institute, where he launched the organisation’s worldwide granting and filmmaker aide initiatives.

Harrington also spent time at Hot Docs and served as director of docs and specials at Discovery, where he commissioned and acquired feature docs for its numerous platforms.

Pulse’s new streamlined non-fiction structure is a result of new commissions from SVoD platforms including Netflix and Apple.
